Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) supervises the the electric distribution companies (DISCOs). These distribution companies are responsible for distribution of electricity in their respective allocated areas. All DISCOs buy electricity from PEPCO, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), and other private Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and sell it to their respective area customers. All companies are owned by the Government of Pakistan except K-Electric which was privatized.

Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) is an electric distribution company that supplies electricity to the districts of Faisalabad, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Jhang, Bhakkar, Toba Tek Singh, and Chiniot in Pakistan. This company generates electric power from water (hydro-electric power) and distributes it to 4.01 million consumers of the area. Faisalabad Electric Supply Company was founded in 1998.
Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) is an electric distribution company which supplies electricity to Gujranwala Region, Punjab, Pakistan. The jurisdiction of the company includes Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin Districts.
Hyderabad had an Area Electricity Board (AEB) as one of the eight AEBs constituted through amendments in WAPDA Act during 1981. Later on as the Government of Pakistan approved the revamping of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) power sector in April 1998, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company took over responsibilities of the Hyderabad Area Electricity Board. Hyderabad Electric Supply Company is owned and operated by WAPDA though. The company was incorporated on 23 April 1998 and certificate for commencement of business was obtained on 1 July 1998 from NEPRA under section 146(2) of Companies Ordinance 1984.
SEPCO (Sukkur Electric Power Company) has been formed by dividing HESCO, therefore the areas of operation that were entirely under the jurisdiction of HESCO have now been divided between the two DISCOs. SEPCO has been incorporated under the companies’ ordinance with the S.E.C.P on 23.11.2010. NEPRA has admitted SEPCO’s application for consideration of grant of a Distribution License and published it in the news papers on 7th April 2011, for Public Hearings. NEPRA has allotted Registration No. LAD-35 to SEPCO and issued it the Distribution Licence No. 21 / DL/ 2011 on 18th August 2011.
The areas that are now under the distribution system of the SEPCO consist of three operation circles that are named:
Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) is an electric utility company in Islamabad, incorporated in 1998. IESCO was formed in 1998 to take over the assets, functions and responsibilities of the erstwhile Islamabad Area Electricity Board, which was then a division of WAPDA. IESCO’s core function is to supply, distribute and sell power (electricity) in the area from Attock to Jhelum, and from the river Indus to River Neelum in Kashmir. It services 2.8 million consumers directly, but touches the lives of more than 25 million people living in the 6 districts its services.
K-Electric (KE) (formerly known as Karachi Electric Supply Company) is a privately-owned utility company. It is managing all three key stages – generation, transmission and distribution – of producing and delivering energy to consumers. This electric supply company is based in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. K-Electric is a owned by a Pakistani investor and vertically-integrated electricity distribution company.
Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is an electric distribution company that supplies electricity to the districts of Lahore, Okara, Sheikhupura, and Kasur in Pakistan.
LESCO comprises of the following eight distribution Operation Circles, one Construction and one GSO Circle, as detailed below

MEPCO (Multan Electric Power Company) is an electric distribution company which supplies electricity to 13 districts of South Punjab, Pakistan. This company generates electric power from water (hydro-electric power) and distributes it to approximately 34 million people of the area. Multan Electric Power Company was founded in 1998. MEPCO is licensee who has been granted license by the NEPRA for distribution of electricity exclusively to service territory spread over 13 administrative districts of Southern Punjab.
Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO), located in Peshawar provides service of power distribution to over 2.6 million consumers of all civil districts of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa, Pakistan. PESCO maintains Khyber Pukhtunkhwa’s electricity distribution system via 132, 66, 33 kV sub-transmission lines, sub-stations and 11 kV & 440 V low tension lines with distribution transformers that deliver electricity to homes or businesses.
QESCO is operating as a Power Distribution Company and will act as Private Organization on switching over from Public to Private Sector. QESCO is taking care of Power Supply System in the whole Balochistan less District Lasbela. It is smallest in terms of consumers but largest in terms of area as it covers 43 % area of Pakistan. QESCO system provides power to huge number of Agriculture Consumers that are contributing about 70-80 % of Power Demand.
Tribal Electric Supply Company (TESCO) is an electric distribution company which supplies electricity to FATA, Pakistan.
